For couples far from home who want to reach what lies under the arguments, in a few days

Before you book back-to-back EFT couples therapy abroad, watch this

In this short video, I explain why international couples often fight about culture when the real fight is about closeness, and how a short EFT block can show that.

Video introduction by psychotherapist Mark Colclough, MA

Is this the right page for you?

This is for you if…

Back-to-back EFT couples therapy abroad is for international couples, expats and Danes living abroad who want EFT, emotion-focused couples therapy, in a concentrated online block planned around travel and two careers.

  • The same emotional loop shows up whether you argue about family, money, holidays or where to live.
  • Talking about deep feelings in a second language leaves one of you feeling exposed or unheard.
  • The move has made one of you depend on the other far more than before.
  • Trust has been shaken by a secret or betrayal, and your usual support is in another country.
  • Work travel and two careers keep pushing therapy aside after a session or two.
  • A new posting, a move home or a decision about children is bringing up old hurts.
  • You want to try EFT properly, with enough time to reach what lies under the arguments.
  • You want a therapist who understands international lives and will not blame your cultures for everything.

This is probably not for you if…

An EFT block abroad suits couples who both want to stay. Otherwise, one of these may fit better.

What clients say

These reviews describe clients’ experiences of working with me. They come from my wider practice and do not all relate to online sessions. Each person’s experience is their own, and a review does not promise a particular outcome.

Mark’s view

“Looking back over my 22 years of practice, I have watched many international couples fight about culture when they are really fighting about closeness. Under the arguments about families and traditions, one partner is often asking ‘Will you choose me, over everything we left behind?’, and the other ‘Can I be myself here without losing you?’. Some feel both in the same breath. EFT helps those questions be spoken and answered, and a concentrated block gives them the time they deserve.”

Supervision supports the quality of my work

Therapy needs reflection and accountability

I meet regularly with experienced psychotherapists to reflect on my work, question my understanding and develop my skills. Supervision is part of the professional care I bring to individual and couples work, including online sessions.

My focus is thoughtful practice, integrity and responsibility.

Let’s discuss online therapy

You are welcome to ask about the kind of support you need.

Tell me where you are based and your time zone. We can then consider whether online sessions together are suitable.

A typical situation

Signe is Danish and Kofi is Ghanaian. They met in London and still live there with their toddler. Every holiday turns into a battle over whose family to visit. Kofi feels Signe looks down on his family’s closeness, and Signe feels swallowed by it. Both travel for work, and regular sessions lasted three weeks.

They book three EFT sessions over two days. Beneath every holiday fight we find the same cycle: Kofi pursues, Signe withdraws. On the second day, Kofi says he is afraid of losing his roots, and Signe says she is afraid of disappearing. They log off with a name for their cycle and a follow-up date.

I have presented this clinical example as a compound of 22 years of clinical practice.

When back-to-back EFT couples therapy abroad is the right step

You blame the move, the families or the culture. Underneath, the same frightened dance keeps going.

Back-to-back EFT couples therapy abroad looks past holidays, in-laws and traditions to the emotional cycle that runs underneath them. With sessions close together, the deeper layer stays open from one meeting to the next.

For couples whose diaries belong to employers and airlines, a few protected days can do more than months of cancelled appointments.

Does the same emotional loop appear whatever you argue about?

Family, money, holidays, where to live. The topics change, yet you both feel the same jolt and react the same way.

We follow the jolt instead of the topic.

Does a second language make feelings harder to share?

Talking about fear or shame in a language that is not your own can feel clumsy and exposed. One of you may sound harsher, or simpler, than you mean.

I slow down, check meaning and make room for the feeling behind the words.

Has the move made one of you far more dependent?

After a move, one partner may rely on the other for nearly everything: friends, language, money, belonging. That imbalance can feel frightening on both sides.

EFT helps you talk about the need without anyone feeling small.

Has trust been shaken while support is far away?

A secret or a betrayal hits harder when your usual friends and family are in another country.

In a block, we can stay with the injury long enough for it to be understood.

Do work trips keep pushing therapy aside?

Two careers and constant travel can mean therapy never gets past the first few sessions.

A concentrated block makes EFT possible in the days you can actually protect.

Is a big move or decision stirring up old hurt?

A new posting, a move home or a decision about children can bring old hurts to the surface at the worst moment.

We work with those hurts before the decision, so you can face it together.

Recognise the two of you? Request a call or book a session, and we will plan back-to-back EFT couples therapy abroad across your time zones.

What back-to-back EFT couples therapy abroad helps you do

When the cycle is named, the culture clash often shrinks to its real size.

We calm the cycle first, by naming it together. Next, we reach the attachment fears beneath it, often about being left, swallowed or not enough. Finally, you practise turning towards each other in the moments that used to pull you apart.

How do we find the cycle under the culture clash?

I trace a recent argument with you step by step, noting where culture shaped the words and where fear shaped the reaction. Both matter, and they are not the same thing.

Can you say what you fear, in any language?

Yes. Fear of losing each other sounds similar in every language. We find simple words for it together, in English, and check that they mean the same to both of you.

Can the partner who depends more feel safe, not small?

Yes. When the more dependent partner can name the need without apology, and the other can respond without feeling trapped, the relationship often relaxes.

Can you repair a betrayal far from home?

Yes, with care. EFT has a structured way of working with attachment injuries, and a block gives that work the continuity it needs.

Can you face the next move as a team?

When the bond feels safer, decisions about countries, jobs and children become choices you make together instead of battles one of you wins.

How does the bond hold when you are apart?

Before the block ends, we name your cycle, agree how you will catch it on the phone or on video while apart, and book follow-up sessions.

How an EFT block for couples abroad is planned

Emotional depth, careful pacing. That is the rule for every EFT block.

A short first call tells us whether back-to-back EFT couples therapy abroad suits you now. If it does, we agree the number of sessions and the days, and I set the times around both your clocks.

A full EFT day

Two 2-hour EFT sessions in one day, with a long break between them, for couples who can clear a single day together.

EFT over two or three days

One EFT session a day over two or three days, so each night can do its own quiet work.

EFT within one week

Three or four EFT sessions inside one week, with a little more space for work and children.

Saturday or Sunday EFT

Weekend dates are sometimes possible. Mention it when you first write.

Pacing deep work across time zones

Back-to-back EFT couples therapy abroad is deep emotional work across time zones, so it needs extra care. We choose hours when you are both rested, and we slow down whenever one of you needs it.

After the block

We plan follow-up that fits your travel, such as regular EFT couples therapy for couples living abroad or a few check-ins.

How it works with me

  1. Begin with a free 30-minute call to check that EFT in a block suits you, or write to me with where you each live.
  2. We choose the number of EFT sessions and the days, and I set the times around both your clocks.
  3. Sessions are 2 hours, by video, from one room or two, with rest built in.
  4. At the end we name your cycle, agree how to catch it while apart and book follow-up.
  5. If you expect several sessions, a therapy bundle saves you 10 per cent and gives you a clear plan from the start. You can see the bundles just below.

Frequently asked questions

Is EFT suited to couples from different cultures?

Yes. The need to feel safe with a partner is shared across cultures, even though the way it is shown differs. EFT works with that shared need.

We speak different first languages. Will that get in the way?

It need not. I slow down when meaning matters, check that words land as intended and leave room for the feeling behind them.

Do we both need to want to stay?

EFT works best when you both want to stay. If one of you is unsure, divorce therapy for couples living abroad or couples therapy for couples living abroad may be the better first step.

How many EFT sessions does a block need?

Can we do the block in Copenhagen instead?

If you are visiting Denmark anyway, yes. See fly-in couples therapy in Copenhagen.

What does back-to-back EFT couples therapy abroad cost?

Every EFT session here is a 2-hour online couples session. Fees in US dollars are listed on my prices page. Booking the block as a therapy bundle takes 10 per cent off.

Book a free 30-minute call or send me a message with where each of you lives, a rough idea of the cycle you are caught in and the days you could both keep free. We agree the plan, then you book.
