Weekend couples therapy in Copenhagen

A Saturday and Sunday in Copenhagen, set aside for the two of you

A protected weekend away from routine, so you can hear each other properly

Before you book weekend couples therapy in Copenhagen, watch this

In this short video, I explain how a weekend of couples sessions in Copenhagen is put together, and why some couples travel for it.

Video introduction by psychotherapist Mark Colclough, MA

At a glance

Weekend couples therapy in Copenhagen is couples therapy gathered into a Saturday and Sunday, in person at my practice in the centre of the city. It suits couples living abroad whose weekdays are full, international couples who choose to travel for focused help, and Danes abroad who are home for a visit. Each session lasts two hours, in English.

It belongs to couples therapy for couples living abroad. If you are travelling from far away and want a longer block, fly-in couples therapy in Copenhagen may suit you better. Follow-up afterwards can happen online, wherever you live.

You can ask for a free 30-minute call, read my client policy or write to me to ask which weekends are free.

Is this the right page for you?

This is for you if…

Weekend couples therapy in Copenhagen is for couples living abroad, or couples willing to travel, whose weekdays have no room for sessions. You both come, in person.

  • Your jobs and travel eat every weekday, and booked sessions keep getting moved.
  • You keep meaning to start, but a free afternoon for both of you never turns up.
  • You will be in Copenhagen anyway, for work, family or a holiday.
  • You are Danes living abroad, coming home for a visit.
  • Long gaps between sessions make you forget where you got to.
  • You suspect a change of place would help you slow down and listen.
  • You want one defined piece of work, not an open-ended series.
  • You would like to sit in a room with an experienced couples therapist, not only see one on screen.

This is probably not for you if…

This page is for couples who can travel to Copenhagen together for a weekend. If something else describes you better, use its link.

What clients say

These reviews describe clients’ experiences of working with me. They come from my wider practice and do not all relate to online sessions. Each person’s experience is their own, and a review does not promise a particular outcome.

Mark’s view

“Since my first client in 2004, I have watched many busy couples put their relationship last in the diary, simply because everything else shouted louder. A weekend in Copenhagen turns that around. For two days nothing else has to compete. I have seen couples who had not spoken honestly for a year begin to, on a Saturday afternoon, because for once they were not rushing to the next thing.”

Supervision supports the quality of my work

Therapy needs reflection and accountability

I meet regularly with experienced psychotherapists to reflect on my work, question my understanding and develop my skills. Supervision is part of the professional care I bring to individual and couples work, including online sessions.

My focus is thoughtful practice, integrity and responsibility.

Let’s discuss online therapy

You are welcome to ask about the kind of support you need.

Tell me where you are based and your time zone. We can then consider whether online sessions together are suitable.

A typical situation

Hannah and Marco live in Zurich. Hannah is German, Marco is Italian, and both are on planes nearly every week. They have tried to book regular sessions three times and cancelled each time. When Marco has a conference in Copenhagen, they decide to stay on for the weekend.

On Saturday we map the argument that starts every time one of them comes home from a trip. On Sunday they practise a different way of reconnecting after time apart. They fly home with two agreements and book three online follow-up sessions.

I have presented this clinical example as a compound of 22 years of clinical practice.

When weekend couples therapy in Copenhagen is the right choice

Your weeks are spoken for. A weekend of couples therapy in Copenhagen is not.

Many couples abroad juggle demanding jobs, constant travel and no relatives close by. Regular appointments slide, then vanish.

Weekend couples therapy in Copenhagen gives the relationship a fixed spot in the diary, far from the usual noise.

Is there simply no free slot in your week?

If your diary is all meetings, flights and pick-ups, a fortnightly hour may never appear.

Two days in the city let you start without rebuilding your working life around it.

Have you postponed help for months, waiting for a quiet patch?

Some couples hold out for the calm season that never comes.

Putting a weekend in the calendar turns a wish into an appointment.

Are you coming to Copenhagen anyway?

Perhaps you already come for work, family or a holiday. Adding sessions makes the trip do double duty.

Danes living abroad often fit weekend couples therapy in Copenhagen around a visit home.

Do long gaps between sessions make you lose the thread?

With weeks between appointments, half of each one goes on recapping.

Across two days, Sunday picks up exactly where Saturday stopped.

Would a change of scene help you slow down?

Out of your own home and away from your inbox, it is often easier to slow down and pay attention.

We protect that space with generous pauses between the conversations.

Would you prefer a defined start to an open-ended series?

Some couples like one focused piece of work and a decision afterwards.

A weekend offers exactly that, with no promise of months ahead.

What weekend couples therapy in Copenhagen helps you do

One theme, two days and time to breathe between the difficult parts.

During weekend couples therapy in Copenhagen we look at three things: the loop between you, the extra weight of life abroad, and the talk you have both been putting off.

How do we use the first day?

Saturday is for drawing the loop you keep getting caught in. By Sunday you can often spot it in real time, with me there to slow it down.

Can we reach the subject we both avoid?

Yes. Having two days means we can come at it gently, sleep on it and pick it up again in the morning.

Can we look at what life abroad has done to us?

Yes. We look at how a move, a foreign language or living far from family has changed the closeness between you, and what each of you is missing.

Will we leave with something concrete?

Yes. You go home with a short list of agreements and a few small habits to try in the following weeks.

What happens after the weekend?

Before you leave, we settle on a follow-up. Often that means online sessions from wherever you live, a second weekend, or a mix.

What do couples usually take home?

Most couples fly home sharing one picture of what goes wrong, and holding a plan that both of them trust.

How a weekend in Copenhagen with me is planned

No agenda is needed. We choose the theme together beforehand.

A few days ahead, we talk briefly online to choose the theme and settle the times. If two days in a row are wrong for you, I will be honest about it.

What does the weekend look like?

Typically one or two sessions on the Saturday and one on the Sunday, two hours each, with long pauses between. The timetable is fixed before you travel.

What do we do between sessions?

Eat, sleep and get out into the city. I might give you one small thing to notice. Nothing more.

Is one weekend enough?

For some couples, yes. Many add a few online sessions afterwards so the new habits survive daily life.

How often do couples book a weekend?

Most book a single weekend first and decide on the next step once it is over.

Is a bundle sensible for a weekend?

A weekend means several sessions back to back, which is where a bundle helps and brings down the price per session. You can compare the bundle cards further down.

How will we know the weekend worked?

The familiar argument loses some of its bite, you can talk at home about the weekend, and the small changes hold for weeks.

How it works with me

  1. Start with a free 30-minute call, or message me for the open dates.
  2. A few days ahead, a short online call settles the theme and the timetable.
  3. Across the Saturday and Sunday we meet in person in central Copenhagen, normally for two or three sessions of two hours, with long pauses.
  4. At the end, we agree what comes next: online sessions from home, another weekend or a pause.
  5. If you expect several sessions, a therapy bundle saves you 10 per cent and gives you a clear plan from the start. You can see the bundles just below.

Frequently asked questions

What is weekend couples therapy in Copenhagen?

Weekend couples therapy in Copenhagen is couples work spread over a Saturday and a Sunday, in person at my practice in the city centre, in English. It is meant for couples who live abroad or who travel to Copenhagen for focused help.

Which weekends are available?

Weekend dates are limited, and I plan each one with the couple. Ask, and I will send you the free dates.

How many sessions does a weekend hold?

Normally two or three sessions of two hours, with long pauses. We fix the timetable before you book your travel.

Is it too much in two days?

It can be tiring. That is why the plan includes pauses, each session stops at two hours, and we slow down whenever it is needed.

We live abroad. Does it make sense to travel for this?

For many couples, yes. A short trip creates protected time that is hard to find at home. If you are coming from far away, fly-in couples therapy in Copenhagen may suit you as well.

We are Danes living abroad and visiting home. Can we combine the two?

Yes. Plenty of Danes abroad book weekend couples therapy in Copenhagen while they are home anyway. We work in English, and follow-up can continue online afterwards.

What if it gets too hard during the weekend?

Then we pause or change course. The weekend is a structure to lean on, not an exam.

What happens afterwards?

We agree a follow-up before you go: online sessions from home, another weekend some months later, or both.

What does a weekend cost?

Every session is a 2-hour couples session, so the total depends on how many you book. Current fees, in US dollars, are on my prices page, and a therapy bundle saves you 10 per cent.

How do we book a weekend?

Ask for a free 30-minute call or send me a message and I will tell you which dates are open.

I want therapy to help you understand your experience and make choices you can use in everyday life. We pay attention to feelings, needs and the responses that happen before you have time to think.

The space we create

Our online room should offer enough trust and honesty to explore what is difficult. I bring attention and professional judgement. You bring your experience, questions and the right to say when something does not fit.
