This short video is about how a set of planned online sessions, taken on your own, can bring clarity to a relationship where autism, ADHD or AuDHD plays a part.

Video introduction by psychotherapist Mark Colclough, MA

At a glance

Back-to-back online neurodiverse couples therapy alone is a planned block of 1-hour video sessions for one partner. Autism, ADHD or AuDHD is part of the picture, yours, your partner’s or both, and your partner will not join or cannot.

It suits English-speakers anywhere who want structure, predictability and enough time close together to understand the relationship. It brings together online neurodiverse couples therapy alone, spread over a few days instead of months.

You can ask for a free 30-minute call, book a session, read my client policy or write to me.

Is this the right page for you?

This is for you if…

Back-to-back online neurodiverse couples therapy alone is for one partner in a relationship shaped by autism, ADHD or AuDHD, yours, your partner’s or both, who wants a planned block of video sessions on their own.

  • Your partner does not want therapy, or finds the idea overwhelming, but you are ready.
  • Scattered sessions leave you more confused than before.
  • Knowing the whole plan in advance would make it much easier to take part.
  • Your calendar has no space for a standing appointment.
  • You have adapted so much to keep the peace that you hardly know what you need.
  • You want to understand why your partner reacts as they do, or why you react as you do.
  • You process best overnight, then pick things up again in the morning.
  • You want someone who knows neurodivergent minds from the inside of the therapy room, and speaks plainly.

This is probably not for you if…

Working alone in a short block suits many people, though not all. These pages may serve you better.

What clients say

These reviews describe clients’ experiences of working with me. They come from my wider practice and do not all relate to online sessions. Each person’s experience is their own, and a review does not promise a particular outcome.

Mark’s view

“In my clinical experience, people in neurodiverse relationships often understand far more than they give themselves credit for. What is missing is time and structure to put the pieces together. Underneath, one voice in the relationship is often asking ‘Why can’t you see how much I need you?’, and the other ‘Why can’t I rest without letting you down?’. When you come on your own, you may recognise one of them, or both. A planned block gives you room to hear them clearly.”

Supervision supports the quality of my work

Therapy needs reflection and accountability

I meet regularly with experienced psychotherapists to reflect on my work, question my understanding and develop my skills. Supervision is part of the professional care I bring to individual and couples work, including online sessions.

My focus is thoughtful practice, integrity and responsibility.

Let’s discuss online therapy

You are welcome to ask about the kind of support you need.

Tell me where you are based and your time zone. We can then consider whether online sessions together are suitable.

A typical situation

Rachel lives in Edinburgh with her husband, who is autistic and does not want therapy. She feels lonely in the marriage and worn out from explaining herself. Her job and two children leave no space for a regular evening appointment.

She books four sessions over two days, with the outline in her inbox a week ahead. Together we look at the moments she feels most alone, what her husband may be experiencing at the same time and what she actually needs. She logs off with three clear requests to try and a follow-up date.

I have presented this clinical example as a compound of 22 years of clinical practice.

When back-to-back online neurodiverse couples therapy alone fits

You want to understand what is going on between you. You want to do it without chaos.

Back-to-back online neurodiverse couples therapy alone gives you a calm, connected stretch of time. You do not need to bring your partner, and you do not need to piece together weeks of detail between sessions.

We look at your relationship as you live it, and at how two different ways of thinking and feeling meet in it.

Is your partner unwilling, or unable, to join therapy?

Some partners find the idea of therapy overwhelming, or do not see the point. You may be ready long before they are.

Starting alone is a legitimate choice, and often a helpful one.

Do scattered sessions leave you more confused than before?

Long gaps can make each session feel like a fresh start. You may leave unsure what was decided, and arrive at the next one tired from trying to remember.

Close together, the thread holds.

Would knowing the whole plan in advance help you take part?

Many people take part far more easily when they know the days, times, breaks and focus in advance.

You get the plan before we begin, and I keep to it.

Have you adapted so much that you have lost track of your own needs?

In some neurodiverse relationships, one partner keeps adapting to avoid conflict, until they hardly know what they need any more.

We give your own needs a clear place again.

Do you want to understand why your partner reacts the way they do?

Your partner’s reactions may seem cold, chaotic or out of proportion. Understanding how autism or ADHD can shape them often takes the sting out.

We look at it without making either of you wrong.

Do you want to understand your own reactions better?

You may be the neurodivergent partner, wondering why the same moments keep going badly. Making sense of your own patterns can be a huge relief.

We take it slowly and concretely.

Recognise yourself? Request a call or book a session, and we will put together a calm, clear schedule.

What back-to-back online neurodiverse couples therapy alone helps you do

Structure, time and plain language make room for real understanding.

First we choose a couple of recurring hard moments. Next we explore what you and your partner may each be experiencing then. The last ones turn that into specific requests, limits and habits you can try at home.

How do we keep the block clear and calm?

Before the first session, the agenda, times and pauses are fixed and shared with you. Changes are rare, and you hear about them early.

Can the confusing moments start to make sense?

Often, yes. We slow a confusing moment right down and look at what was meant, heard and felt on each side. The logic behind it usually starts to appear.

Can you ask for what you need more directly?

Yes. We practise turning hints and hopes into clear, concrete requests your partner can act on.

Can you protect your energy and still stay connected?

Yes. Together we work out your own balance of contact, quiet and recovery, and how to ask for it without pushing your partner away.

Can you decide what you can live with?

Some people use the block to work out what they can accept and what they cannot. I help you think clearly, without pushing you towards staying or leaving.

Can your changes help the relationship?

Very often. When one person changes how they ask, respond or rest, the whole pattern has to shift. We plan small changes and look at what happens.

How your block on your own is planned

Close together, but calm. Breaks are part of the plan.

A brief call settles the focus, the number of hours and the dates. After that, the outline arrives in writing.

Two hours on one day

A morning hour and an afternoon hour, with plenty of time to rest in between.

One session a day for several days

A single hour each day, for three or four days, with the evenings free to process.

Sessions spaced through a week

Sessions every other day across a week, for the most recovery time.

Weekend sessions

Saturday or Sunday times are occasionally possible. Ask, and I will check.

Sensory comfort and pauses

Dim the screen, turn your camera off briefly, wear headphones, move around or stop for a breather: all of that is fine.

Follow-up afterwards

At the end, you choose the next step: some follow-up hours, ongoing online neurodiverse couples therapy alone or, if your partner is willing later, online neurodiverse couples therapy together.

How it works with me

  1. Book a free 30-minute call, or send me a message describing the moments that trouble you most.
  2. Together we fix one aim and the schedule. You get it in writing before anything starts.
  3. Each video session is one hour long, with rest between them.
  4. You finish with written next steps and a date to check in.
  5. If you expect several sessions, a therapy bundle saves you 10 per cent and gives you a clear plan from the start. You can see the bundles just below.

Frequently asked questions

What is back-to-back online neurodiverse couples therapy alone?

It is a short series of 1-hour video sessions for one partner in a relationship where autism, ADHD or AuDHD plays a part. Everything happens in English, on a schedule you see in advance.

Does anyone need a diagnosis?

No. Neither you nor your partner needs a formal diagnosis. If you recognise neurodivergence in your relationship, or suspect it, that is enough.

Will I get the plan in writing?

Yes. The full schedule reaches you before the first session.

Can I pause when I need to?

Of course. Rest is scheduled, and you can add more at any moment.

Can I write instead of talk sometimes?

Yes. You can write in the chat, show notes or sketch a moment. Use whatever makes it easier to explain.

Is it couples therapy if my partner does not come?

Yes. In back-to-back online neurodiverse couples therapy alone, the relationship is the focus. We study the moments between the two of you and the part you can change.

How many sessions should I plan?

Three to five hours is a common first block. We decide together and can adjust.

Will it be too much to take in?

Unlikely. Each session is short, rest is built in and the pace is yours.

What does back-to-back online neurodiverse couples therapy alone cost?

Sessions are 1-hour online sessions for one person. You will find the fees, in US dollars, on my prices page. Booking several at once as a therapy bundle takes 10 per cent off.

How do I arrange a block?

Ask for a free 30-minute call or write to me. Mention the hard moments, your free days and your time zone. The plan is settled before any booking.
