This short video is about how a set of planned online sessions, taken on your own, can bring clarity to a relationship where autism, ADHD or AuDHD plays a part.

Back-to-back online neurodiverse couples therapy alone is a planned block of 1-hour video sessions for one partner. Autism, ADHD or AuDHD is part of the picture, yours, your partner’s or both, and your partner will not join or cannot.
It suits English-speakers anywhere who want structure, predictability and enough time close together to understand the relationship. It brings together online neurodiverse couples therapy alone, spread over a few days instead of months.

These reviews describe clients’ experiences of working with me. They come from my wider practice and do not all relate to online sessions. Each person’s experience is their own, and a review does not promise a particular outcome.
“In my clinical experience, people in neurodiverse relationships often understand far more than they give themselves credit for. What is missing is time and structure to put the pieces together. Underneath, one voice in the relationship is often asking ‘Why can’t you see how much I need you?’, and the other ‘Why can’t I rest without letting you down?’. When you come on your own, you may recognise one of them, or both. A planned block gives you room to hear them clearly.”
Mark Colclough, MA, psychotherapist and EFT couples therapist
I am Mark Colclough, MA. I have practised since 2004 and offer online psychotherapy and couples therapy in English.
My training brings together your emotions, your thoughts and your relationships. My deep passion is the moment when what happens between you finally makes sense, to each of you and to each other. I have lived and worked in nine countries, so I know something of life across languages, cultures and borders.
Read about my background, or explore online psychotherapy and online couples therapy.
I meet regularly with experienced psychotherapists to reflect on my work, question my understanding and develop my skills. Supervision is part of the professional care I bring to individual and couples work, including online sessions.
My focus is thoughtful practice, integrity and responsibility.
You are welcome to ask about the kind of support you need.
Tell me where you are based and your time zone. We can then consider whether online sessions together are suitable.
Rachel lives in Edinburgh with her husband, who is autistic and does not want therapy. She feels lonely in the marriage and worn out from explaining herself. Her job and two children leave no space for a regular evening appointment.
She books four sessions over two days, with the outline in her inbox a week ahead. Together we look at the moments she feels most alone, what her husband may be experiencing at the same time and what she actually needs. She logs off with three clear requests to try and a follow-up date.
I have presented this clinical example as a compound of 22 years of clinical practice.
You want to understand what is going on between you. You want to do it without chaos.
Back-to-back online neurodiverse couples therapy alone gives you a calm, connected stretch of time. You do not need to bring your partner, and you do not need to piece together weeks of detail between sessions.
We look at your relationship as you live it, and at how two different ways of thinking and feeling meet in it.
Some partners find the idea of therapy overwhelming, or do not see the point. You may be ready long before they are.
Starting alone is a legitimate choice, and often a helpful one.
Long gaps can make each session feel like a fresh start. You may leave unsure what was decided, and arrive at the next one tired from trying to remember.
Close together, the thread holds.
Many people take part far more easily when they know the days, times, breaks and focus in advance.
You get the plan before we begin, and I keep to it.
In some neurodiverse relationships, one partner keeps adapting to avoid conflict, until they hardly know what they need any more.
We give your own needs a clear place again.
Your partner’s reactions may seem cold, chaotic or out of proportion. Understanding how autism or ADHD can shape them often takes the sting out.
We look at it without making either of you wrong.
You may be the neurodivergent partner, wondering why the same moments keep going badly. Making sense of your own patterns can be a huge relief.
We take it slowly and concretely.
Recognise yourself? Request a call or book a session, and we will put together a calm, clear schedule.

Tell me briefly what kind of support you are looking for.
Include your country and time zone so we can discuss whether online work together is possible and find a suitable time.

Structure, time and plain language make room for real understanding.
First we choose a couple of recurring hard moments. Next we explore what you and your partner may each be experiencing then. The last ones turn that into specific requests, limits and habits you can try at home.
Before the first session, the agenda, times and pauses are fixed and shared with you. Changes are rare, and you hear about them early.
Often, yes. We slow a confusing moment right down and look at what was meant, heard and felt on each side. The logic behind it usually starts to appear.
Yes. We practise turning hints and hopes into clear, concrete requests your partner can act on.
Yes. Together we work out your own balance of contact, quiet and recovery, and how to ask for it without pushing your partner away.
Some people use the block to work out what they can accept and what they cannot. I help you think clearly, without pushing you towards staying or leaving.
Very often. When one person changes how they ask, respond or rest, the whole pattern has to shift. We plan small changes and look at what happens.

Close together, but calm. Breaks are part of the plan.
A brief call settles the focus, the number of hours and the dates. After that, the outline arrives in writing.
A morning hour and an afternoon hour, with plenty of time to rest in between.
A single hour each day, for three or four days, with the evenings free to process.
Sessions every other day across a week, for the most recovery time.
Saturday or Sunday times are occasionally possible. Ask, and I will check.
Dim the screen, turn your camera off briefly, wear headphones, move around or stop for a breather: all of that is fine.
At the end, you choose the next step: some follow-up hours, ongoing online neurodiverse couples therapy alone or, if your partner is willing later, online neurodiverse couples therapy together.
